The train was fun and just the right amount of time. The folksy conductor was the one who really made the trip worthwhile. Even the kids next to us were having a great time and didn't lose interest because of his breezy rapport.
I suggest this for anyone who wants a fun day with the kids but not for serious history buffs who want to learn. However, it's a fine and charming time, and a good value for the price, even if you have people in your party who can't walk very far.
We love it here. Beautiful restrooms and showers. Beach is Lake Huron gold. Clean
The gift shop was adorable and the staff was super friendly. In places like this, I always ask, "What's your favorite part of the place?" I got really intelligent answers from the clerk at the gift store and I could tell she loved the place.
Shaded sites. Walking/biking trails. Great for the family.
Wonderful park on the shore of lake Michigan. If you get the rustic sunrise cabin, bring lots of battery lights. Its big, but dark inside. Otherwise great cabin. You cannot see the sunrise from the cabin. You will have to walk a couple hundred yards to the beach to do so. Park has new and wonderful shower facilities with power and hot water.
Great views of Lake Huron! Cozy cabins. Clean park with over 200 sites for tent and RV camping.
We do a lot of camping and this is our favorite Michigan state park. It is a beautiful park with lots of public beach (some sites are right on the Lake Huron shoreline, but there is no bad spot in the place). It has plenty of sandy public beach areas; swings and slides for kids as well as explorer activities; volleyball nets, horseshoe pits and beautiful hiking trails. It is surrounded by dense natural areas of Michigan forest, all which is very well maintained. And it has a great staff! Everyone is always smiling, friendly and willing to help. We think they deserve the award for the best camp staff we've ever met.
The magic show by Doug Scheer was fabulous. It was in a gorgeous air-conditioned opera house theater and the show on time travel brought in the history of the time while keeping the show modern enough for today's audiences. We came to the park specifically to see the magic show and my parents and I were delighted by it.
Cute history park, great for kids. This is very touristy, with the hotel being turned into a candy shop, but I liked looking at the old buildings that were moved here from other places. I could have used a bit more authenticity and maybe little mini tours from the people in each building, but maybe those are there - we didn't walk far.
